The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill to increase the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial officers in the country.
If the bill is assented to by the President, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) will receive an annual salary of N64 million.
The President of the Court of Appeal and Justices of the Supreme Court will also see significant salary increases.
All heads of various courts, including the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the President of the National Industrial Court, will earn a basic salary of N7.9 million annually.
The bill aims to address long-overdue remuneration adjustments and ensure judicial independence and integrity. Stakeholders have supported this move, recognizing the importance of fair compensation for maintaining public trust in the judiciary.
