Former head of the Nigerian Police’s Intelligent Response Team, Abba Kyari, has been granted two weeks bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja after spending 27 months in detention.
Kyari is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for alleged drug trafficking offenses.
Suspended from service alongside two senior officers, Kyari faced accusations of seizing 15kg of cocaine from traffickers.
His bail comes two weeks after the death of his mother, Yachilla Kyari.
The court has scheduled May 31, 2024, to decide on Kyari’s bail application in the drug trafficking case.
Meanwhile, he is expected to complete his mother’s burial rites under the terms of his bail.
