In a significant administrative overhaul, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has dismissed the chairmen of all 21 Local Government Areas in Anambra State.
The dismissal was formalized through a letter from Commissioner TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, dated May 17, 2024, which instructed the chairmen to transfer control to their respective Local Government Administration Heads (HLGA) by May 20, 2024.
Part of the letter stated: Following the expiration of your tenure as Transition Committee Chairman, you are hereby directed to handover the affairs of your Local Government Council to the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), in your respective Local Government Councils.
“This directive takes effect from Monday, 20th day of May, 2024. Thank you for your service to the state.
All replies to be addressed to the Honourable Commissioner.
Defying expectations for local government elections, Governor Soludo has instead directed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to nominate candidates for Transition Committees. Each local area is to propose three nominees, including at least one woman.
Special Adviser Dr. Alex Obiogbolu communicated the governor’s instructions, which require local APGA stakeholders to convene on May 18th or 19th, 2024.
They are tasked with selecting three candidates for both the TC Chairman and Local Government Education Secretary roles.
The selection criteria stress the inclusion of women and individuals with a strong reputation, skills, and a dedication to local government transformation.
