Women from Okoloba in Bomadi local government area of Delta State recently staged a protest against the return of armed youths from Okuama in Ughelli South local government area.
These women expressed concern that the presence of these armed youths threatened the peace in the riverine area. Carrying placards, they chanted against violence and bloodshed, appealing to the Federal Government for assistance.
The inscriptions on their placards conveyed messages such as “‘We say no to violence, enough of the killings on our land’, “Armed Okuama youths returning in a commando style,” and “Resettle Okuama people among their Ewu brothers in Ughelli South LGA.”
The women also mourned the killing of 17 soldiers during a peace and rescue mission to Okuama.
They called for the relocation of Okuama to the Ewu clan in Ughelli South, emphasizing that resettling them among their own people would foster mutual trust and safety.
