Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, announced that the refinery will supply refined products such as petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel to both the Nigerian market and other African countries once it reaches full operation.
Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, Dangote stated that the 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery has the capacity to meet local demands and export refined products across Africa.
Africa’s richest man highlighted that the refinery will have sufficient supplies to meet the continent’s needs and also export to Brazil.
“We have started producing jet fuel and diesel. By next month, we’ll be producing gasoline. This capacity is not only enough for Nigeria but will also supply West Africa, Central Africa, and Southern Africa,” Dangote said.
He also mentioned that the next phase of the refinery will commence early next year.
Patrick Pouyanne, Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, revealed that the company has secured a deal to supply crude oil to the $20 billion refinery. Pouyanne noted that he met with Dangote, and their team successfully negotiated the agreement.
“The two CEOs met with our head of trading, and we found a way to convince them to make a deal,” Pouyanne added.
TotalEnergies is one of the major crude oil producers in Nigeria, alongside Shell and ExxonMobil.
