The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released a further 36,540 results from the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after a comprehensive review. Initially withheld, these results have now been cleared and added to the previously announced figures, bringing the total to 1,879,437.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, made the announcement in Abuja, addressing the circulation of a false letter on social media that claimed the 2024 UTME results were compromised due to cybersecurity issues.
Dr. Benjamin assured the public of the board’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and refuted the authenticity of the letter.
He also informed that the board is continuing its investigation into exam malpractices and is in the process of examining CCTV recordings from accredited centers to ascertain the involvement of any candidates in such activities.
Dr. Benjamin also advised the public to rely on official sources for information and clarified that JAMB does not set ‘low cut-off marks’; rather, individual institutions propose their minimum scores, which are then discussed at the Annual Policy Meeting on Admissions.
The 2024 UTME took place from April 19 to April 29, with over 1.94 million candidates participating across more than 700 centers.
The results, as announced by JAMB’s Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, showed that only a small fraction of candidates scored above 300, while a majority scored below 200, indicating widespread challenges among test-takers.
In response to concerns over result integrity, JAMB has implemented additional security measures to bolster the verification process.
