The Federal High Court in Abuja has reaffirmed its April 17 order for the arrest and presentation of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi state.
On Friday, May 10, Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that Bello’s persistent absence from court and his obstruction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) arrest efforts constituted a disregard for the court’s authority.
Justice Nwite declared that the court would dismiss any motions from Bello until he makes a court appearance and responds to the 19-count charge of money laundering filed by the EFCC.
Additionally, the judge dismissed a plea from Bello’s attorney, Abdulwahab Muhammed (SAN), to halt ongoing proceedings until an appeal concerning a contempt case with the EFCC is resolved by the High Court in Lokoja, Kogi state.
