Russian President, Vladimir Putin took the oath of office in a grand ceremony at the Kremlin, marking his record-breaking fifth term as head of state.
At 71 years old, Putin has been at the helm of Russia since the turn of the century, securing a fresh six-year mandate in March through presidential elections that lacked any significant opposition.
In his inauguration speech, Putin expressed confidence that Russia would emerge victorious and stronger from the current challenging period.
Addressing an audience of approximately 2,500 people, including officials and military top brass, he emphasized unity and determination:
“We will navigate this difficult and decisive period with dignity and emerge even stronger. Together, we will overcome obstacles, achieve our goals, and secure victory.”
Acknowledging the weight of his position, Putin described the presidency as a “huge honor, responsibility, and sacred duty.”
He pledged to ensure sustained and stable development, as well as the unity and independence of the country.
During the ceremony, Putin also expressed gratitude to soldiers participating in Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, which began more than two years ago on February 24, 2022.
His speech, broadcast nationally, invoked Russia’s thousand-year history and the debt owed to previous generations who achieved inspiring triumphs.
Regarding international relations, Putin affirmed that Russia remains open to dialogue with Western states.
However, he emphasized that such discussions should occur on equal terms, respecting each other’s interests and ensuring security and strategic stability.
