In a shocking incident coinciding with International Press Freedom Day, Naziru Idris Ya’u, a journalist from Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), sustained a bullet wound within the premises of the Kano State Government House.
The event unfolded on Friday, casting a shadow over the global observance dedicated to press freedom.
Ya’u, who was struck by the bullet, is now in stable condition following the removal of the bullet fragments.
The origin of the gunfire remains unknown at this time.
The Government House is secured by multiple armed forces, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Ya’u recounted the ordeal, stating, “We were standing around gate three area when I was shot on my arm. It did not penetrate much because I removed the shrapnel by myself.
“In the meantime, the security in the Government House has started investigation on the matter.”
Security personnel at the Government House have initiated an investigation into the incident and have stated that the shot did not originate from their issued firearms.
