In a harrowing incident, the village head of Marke, 30-year-old Malam Kabiru Mohammed, was brutally murdered by suspected assassins in the Dandamisa Ward of Makarfi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday when Mohammed, who had been the village head since 2018, attempted to evade the gunmen by hiding in his home’s ceiling.
Despite his efforts, the assailants expelled all occupants from the residence and relentlessly searched for Mohammed and his elder brother, Tukur Mohammed, who were concealed within the ceiling.
A community member, who requested anonymity, reported that the gunmen eventually found Mohammed and mercilessly killed him before setting the residence on fire.
Aminu Sani Marke, the local councilor, lamented that the village head’s remains could not be retrieved due to the extensive fire damage.
He recounted the ordeal, stating, “The assailants terrorized the village for nearly an hour, absconding with valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.”
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson for comments were unsuccessful.
