In a sweeping victory, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured the chairmanship for all 33 Local Government Areas in the Oyo State council elections held on Saturday.
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) declared the results on Sunday, amidst debates and concerns over voting irregularities.
The announcement was made at OYSIEC’s Conference Hall in Agodi, Ibadan, where Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, the Commission’s Chairman, confirmed and celebrated PDP’s triumph.
Despite the victory, several local government areas reported issues during the elections, including delays in the delivery of materials and personnel, and in some cases, a complete lack of necessary materials.
Specific wards in Ibadan North, Ibadan South West, and parts of Saki in the Oke Ogun region were among those that alleged no elections took place.
Mr. Olagunju expressed gratitude to the electoral officers, party agents, and security personnel involved in the electoral process, while also recognizing the need for improvements.
He assured that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the state government promptly.
In contrast, the African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the electoral proceedings, demanding the annulment of the elections.
During a press briefing in Ibadan, AAC’s National Publicity Secretary, Fẹmi Adeyeye, criticized the state government for the lack of a credible election and urged the release of the party’s State Chairman and another member who were detained during the elections.
