The Kano State High Court has ruled that former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, remains the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This decision comes in the wake of multiple suspensions imposed on Ganduje by party leaders in his ward in Kano State.
Initially, the state High Court, presided over by Justice Usman Mallam Na’Abba, had affirmed Ganduje’s suspension as APC national chairman. However, the court later reversed itself and vacated the same order.
“An order of interim injunction is hereby granted staying the execution of the order of interim injunction contained in the ruling of this court delivered on April 17, 2024, directing parties to maintain status quo ante as at April 15, 2024 in relation to the suspension of the fourth respondent/applicant from the first respondent by the Ganduje Ward Executive Committee pending the hearing and determination of the 4th respondent/applicant Motion on Notice,” the judge said
The suspension was announced by some APC members in Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, citing alleged corruption and other vices as reasons.
The decision was reportedly made by nine executive members of the party in the ward.
Ganduje’s legal team successfully presented a motion ex parte, supported by a 27-paragraph affidavit and a written address, leading to the court’s decision to stay the execution of the interim injunction issued earlier.
The court adjourned the matter for further hearing on April 30.
Meanwhile, the Kano State chapter of the APC has urged the public to disregard the purported suspension of the party’s national chairman.
Alhaji Zakari Sarina, the party’s secretary in the state, emphasized that the suspension was null and void, as it came from non-members of the party.
“It is impracticable for non-members to slam a national officer with suspension without recourse to laid down procedures as enshrined in the party’s constitution.
“I must make it clear, that we are undeterred by the activities of these impostors bec ause.
“Their style lacks finesse and sophistication and has further exposed their political naivety where Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is an acclaimed master.
“From available records, those behind the latest oddity are political jobbers who have offered themselves for pecuniary benefits at behest of dignity,” Sarina alleged.
He asserted that they lacked an understanding of the party’s internal processes and rules regarding disciplinary actions.
Sarina reaffirmed the party’s support for Ganduje, highlighting his positive contributions to its growth.
He also cautioned the media to be vigilant and avoid promoting falsehoods, especially when dealing with individuals who lack credibility or genuine party membership.
