Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has lodged an appeal against the six-month prison sentence handed down by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The sentence was in response to charges of naira abuse brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to which Bobrisky pleaded guilty.
Justice A.O. Awogboro, who presided over the case, issued the sentence on April 12, emphasizing its role as a deterrent for similar offenses.
However, Bobrisky’s legal representative, Mr. Bimbo Kusanu, has filed for an appeal, requesting that the Court of Appeal overturn the sentence and instead impose a fine of N50,000 for each count.
In the appeal notice, Kusanu argues that the trial court’s decision to impose the maximum sentence was excessive, especially given Bobrisky’s clean criminal record.
He contends that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) allows for more lenient sentencing options.
Kusanu further asserts that the trial court overlooked Bobrisky’s cooperative behavior, including his immediate guilty plea and compliance with the EFCC’s summons.
The counsel believes that the court’s failure to consider these factors resulted in an unjust sentence, leading to an appeal for a fairer judgment.
