In response to widespread criticism from both the public and opposition parties, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has initiated a competition for the design of a new state logo. Submissions are open from April 19 to 26.
The move follows negative reactions to the recently unveiled state logo, which Governor Adeleke had endorsed earlier in the week, viewing it as a symbol of the state’s renewal.
Previously, in July 2023, the Osun State House of Assembly had annulled the 2012 state Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law, thereby authorizing the executive branch to introduce a new emblem.
Governor Adeleke has now opted to broaden participation in the logo’s creation, as communicated by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The governor invites the public to contribute designs that reflect the essence and aesthetic of the prototype logo. Entries can be submitted both digitally and in print to the Commissioner’s office of the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment.
The winning design will be disclosed on April 28 and officially revealed on April 30 at the Ipade Imole event. The top three designers will receive invitations and rewards.
The Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the new logo as subpar, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have also expressed disapproval, labeling it a misuse of public funds and lacking in quality, respectively.
“It is expected that once fully implemented, these programmes will succeed in resetting learning and connecting the ‘DOTS’ for significant improvement of the overall education system in Nigeria, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” the statement added.
