A Channels Television journalist, covering the Rivers State Government House, was abducted from his home in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, on Thursday evening.
The reporter, identified as Joshua Rogers, had returned from work when he was confronted and forcibly taken by armed individuals, along with his vehicle, around 9 pm.
Earlier that day, Rogers reported on a local event in Ndoni, where a new Primary Healthcare Centre, a contribution from the PAMO Educational Foundation established by ex-Governor Peter Odili, was inaugurated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
An anonymous source confirmed the abduction, stating, “He was kidnapped at his residence in Rumuosi and taken away in his car by unidentified gunmen. We urge the kidnappers to release him unharmed immediately. He is merely a journalist performing his duties.”
The assailants have reportedly demanded a ransom of N30 million from Rogers’ wife for his release.
Attempts to obtain a statement from the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, were not successful, as calls and messages remained unanswered as of Friday morning.
