Tony Okocha, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Chairman in Rivers State, has leveled accusations at Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging that the governor is attempting to obstruct the State House of Assembly through legal maneuvers.
During a press conference in Port Harcourt, Okocha cast doubt on Governor Fubara’s commitment to the Presidential Peace Pact, citing the governor’s respect for President Tinubu as a possible facade.
Okocha highlighted two unfulfilled points from the 8-point deal, specifically the presentation of the budget to the legitimate Assembly and the directive for the governor to hold local government elections without recognizing any other local government structures.
The political tension in Rivers State remains high, with Governor Fubara recently warning his opponents not to misinterpret his acceptance of the peace deal as a sign of weakness.
Governor Fubara, addressing the media’s queries on the peace deal’s implementation, emphasized the need for clarity. He stated that the agreement reached following President Tinubu’s intervention on October 30, 2023, was a political resolution, which he has been implementing out of respect for the President.
However, he warned that his political adversaries should not view his respectful compliance as a vulnerability.
