The contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Ondo State intensified with seven candidates, including incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, submitting their nomination forms at the party’s national headquarters.
Joining them are former Finance Commissioner Wale Akinterinwa, APC National Vice Chairman Isaacs Kekemeke, Gen. Olamide Ohunyeye, Mr. Waheed-Adekojo Funmilayo, and Dr. Olusoji Adewale Ehinlanwo, all vying for the coveted position with the primary election set for April 20.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, flanked by legislative and party leaders, voiced his ambition to continue his governance, highlighting his track record of clearing salary and pension backlogs.
Senator Ibrahim, outlining his vision, pledged to transform the state’s economy, likening his ambitions to creating a ‘Dubai in Nigeria’ and strengthening state security through technological innovations.
Senator Ibrahim, undeterred by endorsements, emphasized the democratic nature of politics and his readiness to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
He also mentioned his legislative efforts to legalize Bitumen extraction, a potential economic boon for the state.
Wale Akinterinwa, with a focus on leveraging the state’s coastal resources, aims to revitalize the marine, agricultural, and tourism sectors, aspiring to make Ondo State a self-reliant entity and a food basket for the South West region.
His campaign promises to prioritize education and human development, building on the foundations laid by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
