Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a new retirement age for public school teachers, now set at 65 years or 40 years of service.
The governor underscored the necessity for strict adherence to the approved guidelines to benefit from this policy.
A circular from Mr. Ayanleye Aina, the Head of Service, outlined the eligibility criteria for the extended retirement age, which includes being part of the recognized education cadre, registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), medical fitness, and a clean disciplinary record.
Teachers must apply six months before turning 60 or completing 35 years of service, with the application endorsed by their Head Teacher/Principal and sent to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.
The circular also clarified that the extension period is not pensionable and directed the Ministry of Finance and SUBEB to stop salary payments to those who have not met the conditions.
The government insists on compliance with the guidelines and has called for their wide dissemination and enforcement.
