In a landmark event, the esteemed Paramount ruler of the Tiv Nation, His Royal Majesty Professor James Ayatse, successfully mediated a reconciliation between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
This significant meeting took place at the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko on a recent Monday evening.
Governor Alia attended the meeting with the support of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Barnabas Gemade.
On the other side, Senator Akume was joined by Senator Jack Gyado, along with other notable members of the National Assembly from the state, such as Chief Titus Zam of Benue North West, Asema Achado of Gwer and Gwer West, and the Minister of Water Resources, Joseph Utsev.
The discussions, which were initially conducted behind closed doors, extended well into the night and were eventually opened to additional political figures and members of the press.
In a public display of unity, Governor Alia and Senator Akume exchanged handshakes and embraced in the presence of Tor Tiv and onlookers, symbolizing their commitment to the reconciliation agreement.
While Governor Alia continues to face challenges in his efforts to address poverty and underdevelopment in Benue, the specifics of the peace agreement remain confidential.
Amidst internal party dynamics, Governor Alia’s faction of the All Progressives Congress has established a separate Secretariat with Omakolo at the helm, whereas Senator Akume and the APC’s National Secretariat acknowledge Austine Agada as the state chairman for Benue.
