Nigeria faced its second major power outage of the year as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported a system collapse. This disruption halted the electricity supply from distribution companies (DisCos) nationwide.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) alerted its customers about the collapse, which occurred at 16:28, causing widespread power loss.
EKEDC assured customers of efforts to swiftly restore the grid and promised updates on the situation.
The blackout forced numerous businesses and households to resort to costlier alternative power sources.
TCN’s spokesperson, Mrs. Ndidi Mba, acknowledged the collapse in an interview, noting that recovery efforts had already reinstated power in Benin, Abuja, and other regions.
This incident follows three similar nationwide power failures in 2023, highlighting ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
