In anticipation of the upcoming Easter celebrations, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has mandated comprehensive security coverage in public areas nationwide.
The focus will be on train stations, airports, and motorparks to ensure the safety of the public during this period.
IGP Egbetokun has instructed all State Commissioners of Police and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to strategically position police personnel and operational assets to counter potential security challenges within their jurisdictions.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the police will carry out vigorous and preemptive patrols at places of worship, transportation hubs, major highways, leisure spots, financial centers, and other vital infrastructure.
Reaffirming the Police Force’s dedication to public safety, the IGP has promised thorough security for Nigerians and visitors throughout the Easter holiday. He assured that security measures would be robust across all travel modalities, including road, air, waterways, and rail, with an increase in deployments and intensified patrols, supplemented by aerial surveillance.
IGP Egbetokun has stressed the necessity for police officers to exhibit professionalism while on duty. He expects them to be respectful to the law-abiding populace while adopting a decisive stance against any criminal activities that may arise during the festive season.
“The IGP felicitates with Nigerians, especially the Christian community, on the occasion of the Easter celebrations.
“He appreciates the citizens for their support and calls on them to cooperate continually with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies by providing prompt and actionable information to prevent and detect crime.
“As we commemorate the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us come together in unity and vigilance to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to serving and protecting the public, and we urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station/Post.”
