Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, represented by his legal counsel Femi Falana, SAN, has formally petitioned for his reinstatement to the Senate.
The suspension of Ningi, who represents the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, was enacted on March 12, 2024, following his allegations of a N3 trillion padding in the 2024 budget.
In the petition conveyed through Falana, Ningi asserts that his fundamental right to fair hearing was breached by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Falana further warned Akpabio of potential recourse to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, if Ningi’s suspension is not lifted.
Revealing that Akpabio initiated a trial against him on March 14, Falana emphasized that his client was declared guilty and subsequently suspended by the Senate President.
In a letter dated March 25, 2024, addressed to Akpabio, Ningi insisted on his innocence and urged for the lifting of his suspension, accompanied by a written apology to the Senate as conditions for his potential recall.
