President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the appointment of Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating under the purview of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Ngelale highlighted General Laka’s extensive experience, particularly in the North-East of Nigeria, where he implemented strategic measures to weaken terrorist factions.
Additionally, General Laka has served in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the auspices of the United Nations, and has been part of Nigeria’s contingent in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal.
General Laka boasts a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University in Pakistan, as well as qualifications in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Ngelale emphasized the President’s confidence in General Laka’s ability to leverage his wealth of experience in combating security threats, employing preemptive, proactive, and meticulous counter-terrorism strategies.
