“Geng forcibly entered Ummita’s residence in September 2022 and fatally stabbed her during a dispute. After fleeing the scene, he was later apprehended by the police and brought to trial.”
Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji of the Kano State High Court, located at Miller Road, Bompai, has pronounced Quandong Geng, a Chinese national, guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, Ummulkusum Sani Buhari (Ummita).
Geng unlawfully entered Ummita’s residence in September 2022, where he fatally stabbed her during a heated argument. Despite fleeing the scene, he was later apprehended by law enforcement authorities and brought before the court for trial.
During cross-examination in court, Geng revealed that Ummita’s decision to marry another person shattered his heart, as he had intended to build a life with her.
He recounted significant financial investments he made in their relationship, including purchasing wedding attire, sweets, and ‘Asoebi’ for their wedding ceremony, as well as providing financial support for her business endeavors and housing needs.
Despite these contributions, Geng asserted that Ummita deceived him by continuing to request money from him while already being married to someone else. He expressed feelings of betrayal, highlighting the substantial financial support he provided for her education, business, and personal expenses.
On Tuesday, the judge rendered a verdict of guilt against Geng, sentencing him to death for his actions.
