Tragic Passing of Ondo APC Governorship Hopeful, Paul Akintelure. Paul Akintelure, a prominent governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has tragically passed away.
His demise, which occurred in the early hours of March 26, 2024, has left a void in the political landscape of the state.Before his untimely death, Akintelure had voiced concerns regarding both direct and indirect threats to his life.
Despite his hopes for improvement, the situation escalated as the APC governorship primary election, slated for April 25, drew nearer.
Expressing his concerns in a statement released by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure remarked, “Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.
“He continued, “The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just.
I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward. Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity.
Our collective strength lies in our ability to stand together as one, regardless of our differences.”Akintelure’s political journey included a stint as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, the incumbent Ondo State governor, in a contest against Olusegun Mimiko, the then Labour Party flagbearer, who emerged victorious.
Prior to his gubernatorial aspirations, Akintelure contested a senatorial election under the APC banner but faced defeat. A medical doctor by profession, he hailed from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
