The coronation process for the incoming Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is scheduled to start on Tuesday, March 26.
This follows the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who died at 81 after a brief illness at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Ibadan’s kingmakers are set to convene on Tuesday to confirm Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the successor to the throne.
The meeting will be attended by the Olubadan-in-Council members, including High Chief Rashidi Ladoja (Otun Olubadan), Oba Eddy Oyewole (Osi Olubadan), Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi (Ashipa Olubadan), Oba Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan), Oba Adebayo Akande (Ekarun Olubadan), Oba Tajudeen Ajibola (Otun Balogun), Oba Lateef Adebimpe (Osi Balogun), Oba Kola Adegbola (Ashipa Balogun), Oba Dada Isioye (Ekerin Balogun), and Oba Abiodun Azeez (Ekarun Balogun).
The assembly, to be held at Mapo Hall, will include all the kingmakers and the Olubadan-elect, Oba Olakulehin.
During this gathering, Oba Olakulehin’s selection is expected to be officially endorsed by the kingmakers, after which his name will be submitted to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for formal approval.
Following the state government’s sanction, the date for the new monarch’s coronation ceremony will be established.
