Violent Clash in Plateau Leaves Homes Destroyed and Lives Lost.A violent clash between Motola and Taroh youths in the Ponglong area of Lalin district, Mikang local government council, Plateau state, resulted in the destruction of several homes, barns, and the rustling of cattle.
According to reports, the clash erupted on Saturday night, leading to casualties and numerous injuries among the residents. The exact number of fatalities is still being confirmed.
Hon. Daniel Kungmi, the transition chairman of the council, described how the clash, initially between two individuals, escalated rapidly as irate youths and criminals seized the opportunity to engage in widespread violence, including arson and theft.
Security operatives were alerted and swiftly responded to restore order in the affected community.
While the situation is now under control, the full extent of the casualties is yet to be determined.
Kungmi emphasized the need for calm among the residents and announced plans for a stakeholders meeting to address the underlying issues contributing to the conflict.
He urged vigilance against opportunistic individuals seeking to exploit the unrest for nefarious purposes and assured the public that the commissioner of police would visit the affected community to assess the situation firsthand.
As of now, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, has not provided further details on the incident.
