A suspected fake doctor who allegedly performed medical treatments in schools and places of worship across Plateau State has been captured.
Dr Bapigaan Audu, the Plateau State chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), revealed this information in a statement co-signed with the association’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Istifanus Bako, on Wednesday, March 20.
According to the NMA, the suspect, known by various aliases including George Ossai and Kelvin Paul, was apprehended in Jos following a joint investigation by the association and officials from the state’s Ministry of Health.
The suspect was then taken to the police headquarters in Jos for detention.The statement highlighted, “NMA Plateau, in partnership with the Plateau State Ministry of Health, has conducted a discreet investigation leading to the arrest of another fake doctor involved in illicit activities across the state’s schools and places of worship.
”It further urged the public to report any suspected fake doctors to the NMA Plateau State or the Inspectorate Unit at the state’s Ministry of Health in Jos.
The NMA also emphasized the importance of seeking healthcare services from licensed professionals within healthcare facilities rather than from unauthorized individuals claiming to be medical practitioners.
