The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have initiated a three-day period of national mourning to honor the memory of 17 soldiers who tragically lost their lives in an incident involving hostile youths in Okuama, Ughelli South LGA, Delta State.
The casualties include high-ranking officers such as the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion Oleh, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali, and the Joint Task Force Commander in Bomadi, Major Gembu Shafa, among others.
As a mark of respect, the AFN has decreed that flags be flown at half-mast across all military establishments throughout the country.
This directive, issued by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, applies to the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
“A directive has been issued by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa to the three Services to that effect.
“From Monday March 18, 2024, up till March 20, 2024, all colours, (flags) are to be flown at half-mast in honour of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) personnel Killed In Action (KIA).”
