The Nigerian Army has reported a successful intervention by its 1 Division troops in Kaduna State, preventing a kidnapping incident orchestrated by an extremist group.
The operation, which took place in the Tantatu Community within Kajuru Local Government Area, resulted in the rescue of several abductees.
On the evening of March 17, 2024, the army personnel, acting on reliable intelligence, rapidly pursued the insurgents who had earlier besieged the community and taken villagers hostage.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, announced the development, highlighting the soldiers’ determined efforts that led to the liberation of 16 individuals.
The search and rescue mission continues as the troops comb through the area, aiming to recover additional hostages and suppress the insurgents’ activities.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has praised the troops for their bravery and effectiveness, urging them to maintain their vigilance throughout the ongoing counterinsurgency operations to secure all regions affected by such threats.
