President Bola Tinubu has reinforced his stance against the payment of ransoms to kidnappers, instructing Nigeria’s security forces to resolve the kidnapping crisis without yielding to the demands of criminals.
This directive was confirmed by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, following a Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The Nigerian government is also evaluating international assistance offers, including those from the United States, to support rescue operations.
Concurrently, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has promised enhanced security measures in Abuja, while the FCT Police Commissioner announced the arrest of a correctional officer involved in a recent fatal shooting.
The firm policy against ransom payments comes in response to a series of kidnappings, notably in Kaduna State, where children were taken hostage.
The government is committed to the safe return of all abductees and is actively working with security agencies to halt the kidnapping trend.
The President’s directive underscores the government’s resolve to combat criminality and ensure the safety of its citizens without capitulating to the demands of kidnappers.
