Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has sanctioned a wage increase for state workers, approving a N20,000 increment for each civil servant.
This decision, announced during a state Executive Council meeting in Minna, follows an appeal from President Bola Tinubu. During his visit to Minna on March 11, President Tinubu urged state governors to implement the wage increase to ease economic hardships.
Echoing President Tinubu’s call, Governor Bago emphasized the importance of adopting the wage increase nationwide, highlighting its potential to provide relief to the public and stabilize the market.
Assuring prompt action, Governor Bago stated that payments would commence without delay, with workers expected to receive alerts by Wednesday.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Bago unveiled plans for Ramadan feeding programs across various wards and the distribution of 120 trucks of grains as part of palliative measures to alleviate citizens’ plight.
