DJ Cuppy, the renowned Nigerian disc jockey, candidly shared that 2023 was one of the most difficult years of her life during a gathering to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD). The ‘Jollof On The Jet’ hitmaker emphasized the importance of being able to decline opportunities when necessary.
Speaking at the event, DJ Cuppy emphasized the significance of saying no, reflecting on her own experiences from the past year.
She acknowledged that her reluctance to decline certain opportunities and her failed engagement with UK boxer Ryan Taylor contributed to her struggles.
“One of the things I have learnt is saying no. I had one of the worst years of my life last year because I could not say no. I did not say no to opportunities that I should have said no to,” she said.
“I did not say no to a fiance I should have said no to. I did not say no to taking things on. I was at the BBC, I had a morning breakfast show, then I was djing, I was planning a wedding, I was at Oxford University. I burnt myself out.
“And none of us are either good to ourselves or other people when we burnt out. So, we have to deal with that guilt that comes with saying no. It is okay to say no.”
As she navigates through the aftermath of her failed relationship, DJ Cuppy remains resilient and emphasizes the value of learning to say no, prioritizing personal well-being, and setting boundaries in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
