A gas explosion at a steel company in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, has resulted in at least seven individuals sustaining critical injuries.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, prompted the state government to swiftly order the immediate closure of the company.
The explosion severely impacted the entire production line of the company, raising concerns about the safety protocols and operational standards within the facility.
While the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, Mr. Ola Oresanya, the State Commissioner for Environment, has pledged to conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the root cause of the accident.
During his on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene, Commissioner Oresanya emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of workers and neighboring communities.
He underscored the need for stringent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, highlighting the state’s commitment to holding industries accountable for adhering to safety regulations.
In response to the emergency, the management of the company swiftly transported all injured victims to a nearby hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State, for urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion, aiming to implement measures that will safeguard both workers and local residents from potential hazards.
