The President, Bola Tinubu, has instructed the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to ensure the return of all confiscated grains to their rightful owners for resale in Nigerian markets, according to Adeniyi.
During a stakeholder gathering in Kwangwalam, a border community in Maiadua Local Government Area of Katsina State, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) revealed that President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigerian Customs Service to return all seized food items to their rightful owners.
This directive aims to ensure ample availability of affordable food in Nigerian markets.
The CGC emphasized that the return of confiscated food items is contingent upon their resale within Nigerian markets.
He stated, “The overarching goal is to bolster food security and alleviate hunger among Nigerians. President Tinubu perceives this measure as a strategic step towards addressing food security challenges.
“Highlighting the impact of the seized food items on market dynamics, he noted, “We have impounded over 120 trucks loaded with food items destined for export.
This depletion of our market stock led to scarcity, exerting upward pressure on prices.
We anticipate that restocking our markets will positively influence prices.”In addition to the stakeholder meeting, the CGC visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in his hometown of Daura and received an honorary title, Mabudin Hausa, from the emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Farouq Umar, in recognition of his contributions.
