The Rivers State Police Command has announced an increase in security measures for the upcoming Saturday funeral of the late Herbert Wigwe and his family.
The remains, which were delivered to Port Harcourt International Airport in specially marked cartons, have been transported to Isiokpo in the Ikwerre Local Government Area.
A vigil was held in anticipation of the funeral, with many relatives and friends in attendance. The police have implemented extensive security protocols to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and peacefully.
SP. Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, detailed the deployment of various police units and officers from neighboring Bayelsa State to safeguard the ceremony. The police force has called for public cooperation and adherence to security measures during the event.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has stressed the need for lawful conduct and respect for the solemnity of the occasion. He reassured the public of the police’s dedication to maintaining order and addressing any security issues that may arise.
