The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its optimism about Nigeria electing its first female president in 2027.
During an event commemorating the 2024 International Women’s Day at the party headquarters in Abuja, PDP national chairman, Umar Damagum, expressed this hope.
Represented by PDP national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, Damagum highlighted the disappointment of men in the current generation of Nigerians.
He emphasized the crucial role of mothers and women, stating that their significance cannot be overstated.
He praised the PDP as the leading party providing opportunities for women to thrive.Damagum stated, “I sincerely hope that one day, even if not in our generation, a woman will become the president of this country.
I say this with utmost sincerity and belief that men have failed this generation.”He underscored the PDP’s commitment to women’s empowerment and highlighted the party’s democratic principles, which allow women to aspire to any position without purchasing forms.
Earlier in the event, PDP National Woman Leader, Amina Divine Arong, emphasized the importance of gender equality in political participation and leadership for achieving sustainable development goals by 2030.
Arong highlighted the significant underrepresentation of women in politics and stressed the need for women to be encouraged, trained, and supported in pursuing leadership roles.
She emphasized the positive impact of women in leadership positions on economic, social, and political progress.Arong called for active support for women and girls in leadership positions and urged existing female leaders to facilitate opportunities for growth and development for other women.
