Two commercial banks in Anyigba, within the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, were the targets of an armed assault that resulted in the deaths of a security guard and a civilian.
The attack, which was captured in a widely circulated social media video, occurred around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Witnesses reported intermittent gunfire throughout the duration of the heist.
The assailants initiated their raid by striking the local police station on the Anyigba-Idah road, where they fatally shot a recently transferred officer named Idoko, originally from the nearby town of Iyale.
Additionally, a local vendor known as Alagama, who operated near the incident’s location, was fatally wounded by a stray bullet.
It was reported that the attackers tracked a bullion van to its Anyigba depot, where they successfully neutralized the security systems and seized the cash contents.
Simultaneously, another faction of the group infiltrated the First Bank in the town, absconding with an undisclosed amount of money.
The Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP William Aya, has not yet officially confirmed these events.
