The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, based in Abuja, has postponed the hearing regarding the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Murtala Ajaka, to March 14.
The SDP’s petition challenges the victory of Governor Ahmed Ododo in last year’s state election. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ododo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious with 446,237 votes, while the SDP candidate garnered 259,052 votes.
Ajaka and the SDP contest the election outcome, citing allegations of fraud and other irregularities during the voting process.
Following a Court of Appeal ruling, the tribunal nullified certain sections of its earlier decision, including the inspection order granted to the SDP.
As a result, the tribunal adjourned the hearing on Friday until the following Monday.During Monday’s session, the petitioners’ counsel, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN), sought to tender INEC devices as evidence.
However, Kanu Agabi, representing Governor Usman Ododo, referenced the Court of Appeal judgment and an accompanying affidavit.
In response, Mr. Okutepa stated that he had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, prompting the need for an adjournment to address the application.
