Following a meeting with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House in Kano, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa has resumed his role as the head of the Kano State Hisbah Board.
The meeting, which aimed to resolve differences, was initiated by a group of Islamic scholars and organizations within Kano State.
Sheikh Daurawa had publicly resigned from his position as the leader of the Hisbah Board, which enforces Islamic law, after the governor criticized the board’s methods, particularly concerning the handling of female detainees.
Dr. Sa’id Ahmad Dukawa, representing the coalition, announced the Sheikh’s return to duty, concluding a period of leadership uncertainty for the Hisbah Board.
Sheikh Daurawa’s resignation had caused considerable discussion in Kano and other parts of Northern Nigeria, especially in the context of the arrest and legal proceedings involving Murja Kunya, a well-known female TikToker.
Prominent Islamic leaders encouraged Sheikh Daurawa to retract his resignation, leading to the reconciliation that restored him to his former post.
