The nomination portal for the Edo State governorship election, which is not part of the regular cycle, will be opened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, March 4, 2024.
Blessing Agbomhere, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, also urged the party members to come together before the September governorship election in the state.
The Commission asked political parties to get the access code from the Commission headquarters to upload their candidates’ names, in a statement signed by the National Commissioner in Charge of Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun.
The Commission, however, cautioned that it would not give more time for the parties to upload their candidates’ names and details as 20 days were sufficient for them to do that.
INEC revealed that the last date for the conduct of primaries by political parties was 24th February 2024.
INEC said that the National Chairmen of political parties could collect the access code to the portal from Saturday, March 1, 2024.
INEC also revealed that it arranged a refresher training for two Liaison Officers per party. The training started Friday 1st March 2024 and will finish on Monday 4th March 2024. The Venue is the Media Centre at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, lost his chance of becoming the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 governorship election in the state as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party instructed its members to support the party and governorship candidate, Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo.
The party announced this on its official X handle, @OfficialPDPNig.
