Daurawa expressed his disappointment with the governor’s remarks, citing his efforts to uphold societal morality during his tenure at Hisbah.
In a video posted on his social media account, Daurawa stated, “Currently, I’m in Kaduna State, meeting with lawmakers led by the Speaker to discuss implementing mandatory pre-marital health checks in Kano, similar to other Nigerian states.
“However, I’ve faced discouraging comments from Kano, despite my endeavors at Hisbah to promote societal morality.
“I’ve actively engaged with Kannywood and TikTok celebrities, providing guidance and even financial assistance to some TikTokers. I have also offered advice to Murja too.
“Unfortunately, those who ignored our guidance faced consequences.”But I apologize to His Excellency, the Governor, for my frustration.
I regret to announce my resignation from the position he appointed me to in Hisbah. I wish him the best in his leadership.
“Governor Yusuf had expressed dissatisfaction with the implementation of Hisbah’s ‘Operation Kau da Badala’ across the state.’Operation Kau da Badala’ is Hisbah’s initiative aimed at combating immorality and maintaining order in accordance with Islamic values.
During a meeting with Imams at the Kano Government House, the governor criticized the board’s modus operandi.
He remarked, “I witnessed a disturbing video. Hisbah operatives were seen forcefully apprehending individuals engaged in immoral activities.
They were subjected to beatings with bamboo sticks, resembling animals being herded into vehicles.
This, in my opinion, is a grave error. Holding an adult and tossing them into a vehicle like a goat is unacceptable.
“Hisbah is a respected board, comprising individuals of integrity entrusted with upholding the people’s mandate in line with righteousness.
“I urge agencies tasked with guiding youth towards virtuous paths, especially Hisbah, to reconsider their approach.
“We establish such agencies to promote Islamic values and provide guidance to all stakeholders. However, if such actions persist, the youth may lose respect for authority, leading them astray.
“We want these institutions to inspire positive change, not perpetuate the opposite. God forbid if someone sustains a spinal injury during these operations, the consequences would be dire.
“I’ve seen videos of students’ accommodations being raided, occupants beaten, and forcefully taken away. This is troubling.
If such actions continue, it may provoke the opposite of the desired effect.”Daily Trust reports that Hisbah has conducted numerous raids at public locations across Kano.
