Insufficient or misdirected funds are exacerbating the challenges we face in the agricultural sector.
Today’s meeting is not merely a discussion but an opportunity to brainstorm solutions to our pressing issues.
I urge you all to voice your concerns so we can address the root of the problem. From the points raised, I’ve identified some key areas for action.
Firstly, we need to address revenue collection practices, which are inflating food prices. Therefore, effective immediately, no revenue should be collected for the next six months.
A special hotline will be established to report any non-compliance by revenue collectors. To support our farmers, we will allocate an initial sum of N600 million through the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) to subsidize tractor hiring costs.
Details on accessing this subsidy will be communicated to smallholder farmers.
Our goal is to subsidize the clearing of at least 120,000 hectares this planting season. In response to concerns raised about agriculture extension services and produce haulage costs, we will bolster the Pacesetter Transport Services with a dedicated fleet for farm produce transportation across the state.
Additionally, I am forming a 10-member committee comprising stakeholders and government officials to monitor the implementation of decisions made today.
This will ensure accountability and progress tracking over the next six months.
Regarding the visibility of extension workers, I’ve directed the Commissioner to ensure their active involvement.
If necessary, they will be transferred to the Oyo State Agricultural Development Agency (OYSADA) for better alignment with our food production efforts. Rest assured, changes will be made to enhance their impact in supporting our farmers.
