Just a day after Olumide Akpata was unveiled as the Labour Party candidate, the Alhaji Lamidi Apapa-led faction introduces its own candidate, sparking controversy.
The Labour Party swiftly responded, denouncing the move and labeling the authors of the letter as fraudulent and desperate individuals seeking recognition through deceitful means.
In a strongly-worded statement, the party emphasized the legitimacy of its primary process, highlighting that it was televised and observed by INEC officials.
They questioned the authenticity of the rival faction’s claim to have conducted a primary, asserting that there was no media coverage or public awareness of such an event.
Furthermore, the party pointed out internal divisions within the Apapa camp, with Lamidi Apapa reportedly distancing himself from the faction and former Youth Leader, Anselm Eragbe, disclaiming their actions.
Eragbe criticized the introduction of new candidates to INEC, alleging that their tenure had expired and their actions lacked legitimacy.
Labour Party urged Nigerians to disregard any list other than that of Olumide Akpata, reaffirming his candidacy as the only legitimate candidate sponsored by the party.
The party also called on the media to refrain from perpetuating the factional narrative, emphasizing that there is no division within the Labour Party and urging verification through the INEC website for clarity on party leadership.
