Bandits operating along the Gusau-Sokoto highway have once again perpetrated a brazen attack, kidnapping over 26 travelers on Tuesday afternoon.
The abduction took place near Kwaren Kirya village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where the assailants blocked the road and forcefully seized passengers from both a Toyota 18-seater bus and a Volkswagen Golf vehicle.
A resident of the area, speaking anonymously due to security concerns, expressed alarm over the increasing frequency of such attacks, noting that bandits are now obstructing the road on a daily basis.
“Just half an hour ago, these bandits blocked another section of the road and robbed passengers from an 18-seater bus and a golf. It’s distressing because these incidents have become routine,” the source revealed.
The resident also highlighted concerns about Balge village along the highway, alleging that it serves as a haven for suspected bandits.
“There’s a village called Balge beyond Kwaren Kirya where about 80% of the residents are believed to be bandits.
Although they were once displaced, many returned, and the majority are affiliated with banditry. We urge the government to deploy military personnel to the area to assist us,” the source emphasized.
Calls for enhanced security measures in the region have grown louder, with demands for the government to establish security outposts to combat criminal activities.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the police authorities in the state regarding the latest abduction incident.
