The Assistant Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Victor Osehobo, has refuted claims suggesting that Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, is imposing the preferred gubernatorial candidate of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the party’s primary election slated for February 17.
Osehobo emphasized that such reports of Oshiomhole’s alleged imposition lack merit, asserting that the lawmaker upholds the principles of due process.
Addressing the media in Benin, the capital of Edo State, Osehobo denounced the reports as attempts to sow discord prior to the primary elections.
He stated, “The numerous speculative articles circulating in certain publications regarding Edo APC demonstrate a profound misunderstanding of the transparent process by which candidates are selected.
“Osehobo dismissed allegations of Oshiomhole’s endorsement and imposition of a favored gubernatorial aspirant, especially given the fact that the direct primary process has yet to take place.Accusations of Oshiomhole soliciting endorsements from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje were described as desperate maneuvers aimed at inciting turmoil.
“With primary screenings commencing today,” Osehobo remarked, “the timing of these accusations is suspicious.”He further discredited claims of clandestine meetings orchestrated by Oshiomhole with former commissioners Kassim Afegbua and Mika Amanokha, questioning the credibility of such assertions.
“The accessibility of Afegbua and Amanokha raises doubts as to why they were not directly approached for clarification,” Osehobo concluded.
