On Monday, February 19, long lines of vehicles were seen at Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol stations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) stopped tanker operations, claiming high costs were unaffordable.
The association had informed the Federal Government and Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria of its intention to suspend operations.
Most petrol stations were closed on Monday morning.
The few Independent marketers who were open to customers sold the product for N648 to N670 per litre.
The few Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) retail outlets that were open offered the product for N617 per litre with long queues.
In addition, black marketers charged N850 for 10 litres in plastic containers.
The NARTO President, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal Othman, who spoke to the Nation on phone, verified that the suspension of operation had started.
He said it would result in total halt of the product’s haulage.
