The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State received sensitive materials for the Surulere Federal Constituency I by-election on Thursday from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Prof. Ayobami Salami, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, informed reporters that the commission is fully prepared for the upcoming election.
“We have received the sensitive materials today. We are in the final phase of the by-election process. Ballot papers and result sheets for Saturday’s by-election have been obtained,” Salami stated, emphasizing the commission’s readiness for the election.
He mentioned that political parties’ representatives and security agencies have been invited to observe the exercise, ensuring transparency.
Salami assured stakeholders that the sensitive materials are securely stored, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to transparency.
INEC is poised to conduct a free, fair, and credible election on Saturday, Salami stressed, urging cooperation and support from all stakeholders.
He disclosed that the onward distribution of materials to the six wards and 258 polling units constituting Surulere Federal Constituency I would commence on Friday.
The Surulere Federal Constituency I by-election will feature 12 candidates from various political parties. The vacancy arose following the resignation of the former occupant, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was appointed Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu after winning the position.
