The late Oba Olatunde Olusola of Imojo-Ekiti, one of the two Ekiti monarchs slain by bandits on Monday, had aspirations to attain professorship within a year before his tragic demise. This revelation was made by Chief Ayodele Dada, the Second-in-Command to the Onimojo, the Elejira of Imojo, during a meeting between Ekiti State officials and community elders.
The ambush by gunmen resulted in the deaths of Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, alongside Oba Olatunde. However, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara Ikole-Ekiti, managed to escape.
In memory of the late monarch, Chief Dada urged the state government to expedite the completion of the Imojo Palace project initiated by Oba Olatunde, proposing to name it after him for posterity.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, Dada highlighted the late monarch’s significant contributions to community development initiatives. He also called on the government to intensify security efforts in the state, lamenting the recent surge in kidnapping incidents.
Kidnapping cases have become alarmingly frequent across various regions of the country. In another incident in Ekiti, four staff members and five students from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools, Emure Ekiti, were abducted on Monday, with kidnappers demanding a N100 million ransom for their release.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, at the meeting, reiterated his confidence in the security services to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime against the traditional institution in Ekiti. He affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring public safety and security.
