South African sensation Tyla clinched the coveted Best New Artist title at the 2024 BET Awards. Her debut single, “Water,” propelled her to global stardom and secured accolades, including the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance earlier in the year.
At just 22 years old, Tyla became the youngest African artist to receive a Grammy. In a thrilling moment, she accepted the Best New Artist award, prevailing over fellow African talents such as Ayra Starr, 4Batz, Bossman Dlow, Fridayy, October London, and Sexyy Red.
During her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed gratitude: “This is such a gift to be here. I want to dedicate this one to Africa and all the superstars who paved the way before me. This is amazing—Africa to the world!”
In addition to her Best New Artist win, Tyla also claimed the title of ‘Best International Act,’ surpassing Asake, Ayra Starr, and Aya Nakamura (France), among others. Burna Boy, Tems, and Seyi Vibes received nominations in other yet-to-be-awarded categories.
